These sessions include core training for flute pad certification and an optional certification for clarinet pad installation. Scott Devey: Straubinger Flutes and our Extended Family of Certified Technicians sadly bid farewell to one of our very fine repairmen, SCOTT DEVEY, who left us all too quickly and unexpectedly, when he passed away June 20, 2012 in Riverton, Utah. We offer his wife and all of his children our sincerest support and sympathy. We will always remember his warm humor and his strong commitment to achieving the very best for his customers.

Japan
2/27/2012 - During the week of Feb 19, David was a featured speaker at the Yamaha Convention where he addressed the unique positives of his Straubinger Pads and the critical importance of precision in the installation process. Yamaha Corporation has announced that they are now installing Straubinger Pads in their higher-end flutes and Straubinger Flutes welcomes them to the family of other manufacturers who already install his Pads in their instruments at the factory. While in Japan, he met with representatives of Powell Flutes Japan and also was hosted by Miyazawa Corporation on Monday, the 27th. After a very warm and welcoming reception at every turn, David will return to the US on the 1st of March.
Indianapolis
 Straubinger Flutes and Toru Nomura of Yamaha Music Europe GmbH are featured in the April 2012 issue of PIPERS Magazine. Toru Nomura, Specialist for Flute/Research and Development, Atelier Hamburg, visited us in Indianapolis in February 2011.

On November 6th, William Bennett visited David's newly reconstructed production facility following two days of masterclasses and performances at the University of Indiana. (see more pictures)
Two June workshops for Straubinger Flute Pad Certification were conducted at Straubinger Flutes. These fast-track courses were especially designed to meet the needs of several technicians who requested more advanced skills training.
New York

Carol Dennis, for whom David made the flute, shares a history with Sir Galway that goes back many years to when she traveled with her husband Dick Dennis, (concert-master for Henry Mancini) AND Sir Galway. Emma Huelskamp was invited back to play her Straubinger Silver Flute at the Sir James Galway 2010 Master Class in Weggis, Switzerland. (see more pictures)
June 2010 - David traveled to Zurich, Switzerland where he met with customers in the Wengen area of Switzerland. One of the highlights of the trip was an impromptu evening of flute music, played by one of our customers on her Straubinger Flute and joined by another flutist also playing a Straubinger flute with a breathtaking view of the Tshingelhorn Mountain in the background.
Markus Haeller, Zurich, Switzerland
June 2010 - David met Marcus Haeller, Certified Technician at Musik Hug, which is a dealer for Straubinger Flutes in Zurich. Together they explored the specific challenges of doing business together and the impact of the current global economy. While in the area, David also met with a Swiss banking specialist concerning new laws and requirements imposed by our government on international marketing. In addition, he also met with flutists in the St. Gallen and Zurich area.

June 2010 - David traveled to Geneva, Switzerland, where he met with flutists and customers at Vents du Midi/Flautissimo SARL, hosted by owners Alice Gunther and Otto Hnatek, also Certified Technicians and brokers for Straubinger Flutes.

Texas Flute Society Convention
May 16, 2013. Thomas Robertello will be guest artist a at the Texas Flute Society Convention. He will be performing "Three Songs" by Charles Ives, "Sonata in G Minor", BWV 1020 by JS Bach, and "Sonata", op. 36 by Gabriel Pierne. Straubinger Flutes will also be at the convention with flutes on May 16-18, 2013. We hope to see you there.

News from Straubinger Flutists
Jasmine Choi, a native of Korea, HAS BEEN NAMED THE PRINCIPAL FLUTIST WITH THE VIENNA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA. Jasmine, who PLAYS A STRAUBINGER GOLD FLUTE, was the first Korean woodwind player to hold a post with a major orchestra in the United States. She has been critically acclaimed on international stages for her rich tone, technical brilliance, superb musicianship, and charismatic stage presence. Winter Jasmine (2011) was commissioned by American flute maker David Straubinger for the remarkable young flutist Jasmine Choi. Like the intensely - perfumed flowering plant which blooms only during the dark of winter, there is sweetness here in the sadness which this music evokes. --Gary Schocker

David Straubinger at the NAPBIRT National Conference
By invitation David spoke on April 16-17, 2012 at the National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians (NAPBIRT) 36th Annual Conference in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois. He spoke about "Flutes: Pads and Precision." What are Straubinger pads? How are they different from traditional felt pads? How are they similar? The Straubinger Phoenix Flute Pad was introduced at the NAMM Convention, January 15-18, 2009.
A variant of David's newest patent has been named the Straubinger Phoenix Flute Pad to commemorate our return from the horrific fire of 2008. This particular pad was made especially for Conn-Selmer to use in their production Avanti Flutes, designed by Bickford Brannen and flute makers at Conn-Selmer. It was introduced at the NAMM Show.
